Lebanese President Joseph Aun today estimated that “we need to negotiate with Israel” in order to solve the problems between the two countries, which are still in war, while the Gaza war is over.
“The Lebanese state has already negotiated with Israel under the auspices of the United States and the UN, [διαπραγματεύσεις] which resulted in the demarcation of the maritime borders (…), “the Lebanese president said, according to the presidency.
“What prevents this from happening again to solve the problems that are pending,” he added.
The “general climate” in the area “is towards compromise, and we need to negotiate,” the Lebanese president estimated.
During a speech today in parliament in the presence of US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country is seeing the possibility of quickly achieving new peace conditions with Arabic or Muslim countries.
In a speech before the UN in September, he said that “peace between Israel and Lebanon is possible” and called on “the Lebanese government to launch immediate negotiations with Israel”.
Lebanon came out in November 2024 from a deadly war between the pro -Hezbollah organization and Israel, which caused the deaths of 4,000 people.
Despite the ceasefire negotiated under the auspices mainly of the US, Israel continues daily blows against Hezbollah and holds five points in Lebanese territory.
In October 2022, the two countries reached an agreement to demarcate their maritime borders by ensuring the distribution of offshore gas deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean.
