US President Donald Trump hosted a lavish dinner yesterday, Wednesday, to thank the billionaires and major corporations who donated to the new ballroom being built at the White House, at a cost of $250 million.

Among the guests were representatives of technology companies, such as Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google, Microsoft and Palantir, the giant defense industry Lockheed Martin and the twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, founders of the Gemini platform.

“Some of you seemed very, very generous,” Trump said to his guests. “I mean, some of you sitting here in front of me have asked me, ‘Sir, would you like $25 million?’ I answered: “I will take them”.

“Trump’s Arch” is moving forward

During the dinner, Trump also showed his donors some plans for the Arch he wants to build near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.

A version of it has dimensions more imposing than those of the French Arc de Triomphe, which the American president envied during his first visit to Paris in 2017.

“This is Lady Liberty. So the sizes would be very different. This would be a little small, medium, and I happen to think big works betterhe said during the presentation.

The American president even held up in his hands a small-scale model of the construction, which is already named “Trump Arch” and modestly commented: “It will be really nice!”.

The new ballroom with bulletproof glass walls

According to Donald Trump, the new ballroom will be entirely privately funded and will be the largest addition to the White House in over a century.

Of that, 22 million comes from a deal he made with YouTube in September after the company suspended Donald Trump’s account following the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

During the evening, the president opened the curtains of the East Room, revealing to the guests the work in progress on the construction of the giant ballroom.

According to him, the hall will have four walls of bulletproof glass, it will be able to accommodate 1,000 people, as well as host presidential inauguration ceremonies.

It is the most important of the changes that Donald Trump is making in the White House after he returned to power in January. For example, he has already loaded the Oval Office with gold decorations and changed the rose garden of the inner courtyard.
