Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton, has pleaded not guilty to charges of mishandling classified information.
Bolton is the third of Trump’s prominent critics to face prosecution in recent weeks.
Wearing a dark blue suit and brown tie, he did not speak to reporters as he arrived at the Greenbelt, Maryland courthouse to surrender.
“Not guilty, Mr. President,” Bolton told the court, according to Reuters.
The charge alleges that Bolton shared sensitive information with two relatives about a book he was writing, including notes about intelligence briefings and meetings with senior government officials and foreign leaders.
Bolton’s attorney, Abe Lowell, said he did not illegally share or store any information.
Meanwhile, Jack Smith, the federal prosecutor who led the criminal investigations against Donald Trump after his first term as president, was referred to the Justice Department on Friday over allegations that his office illegally obtained the call records of Republican lawmakers, according to a New York Post report.
