After so many scandals and his name being linked to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew has announced that he is stepping down from his royal titles and official duties.
The question is why he announced it now, while the scandals surrounding his name have been following him for years.
Andrew voluntarily relinquished his titles, however he is sure he was pressured to do it before being deposedaccording to the BBC.
In this way, the changes remain inside of the royal family and not Parliament’s intervention is requiredso as to be stripped of his title of Duke of York. The royal family, however, believed that even in the event of his removal, both Parliament and public opinion would support it.
Allowing Andrew to voluntarily relinquish his titles gave him an outlet to retain a small trace of lost pride of, comments the BBC.
However, it is no secret that Buckingham Palace was enraged with the scandals surrounding Prince Andrew. The questions about them his ties to Epstein were overshadowing the work of the rest of the royal family, while the already heavy atmosphere was also added to his alleged relations with a Chinese spy.
Next week, King Charles and Camilla will meet him Pope Leo in the Vatican in one historical visitand there was strong concern that the event would be overshadowed by the horror stories for Andrew and Epstein. According to royal sources, things had reached a “tipping point” and action had to be taken.
Arguably, this should have been done sooner. But such a decision would mean that the Palace you should publicly admit that he was responsible for him prince andrewwhile until today he maintained that, as a “non-active member of the royal family”, the his problems were his own business.
With this move, the Palace shows that it recognizes that, while Andrew is not its responsibility, the his reputation affects the royal family as a whole.
Two pieces of news in recent days seem to have sent the Palace into the “amen”.
First, an email published last weekend revealed that the Andrew had been involved with Epstein for longer than he had admitted in an interview with the BBC, thus disproving his version.
Secondly, next week the publication of Virginia Giuffre’s memoirs – one of the most prominent accusers of Jeffrey Epstein – with shocking revelations about sexual contacts with Andrew from the age of 17.
At the same time, it is not excluded to exist and other revelations from the US for Epstein’s crimes, as they are in progress investigations and related documents are sought.
The Democratic leader of the US House Oversight CommitteeRobert Garcia, who is pushing for the disclosure of all the facts, stated that “his decision to renounce his royal titles is long overdue.”
The Commission recently disclosed documents showing a “Andrewto do massage inside Epstein’s private jet.
“We know that rich and powerful men they used them money and her power them to abuse girls and young women and protect themselves from justice. Prince Andrew’s decision is just the beginning of the Commission’s work on the justice for the survivors»Garcia pointed out.
Prince Andrew denies the accusations, but the case has now reached global proportions. When Trump visited the UK, protesters held up a photo of him Andrew and Epstein on the walls of Windsor Castle.
His relinquishment of the remaining titles means he will now be on par with his ex-wife, who no longer holds the title of Duchess of York.
The king had already cut off his financial support, so Andrew will continue to live on his own resources. As for his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenia, they will continue to retain their titles.
