In 88 million euros the financial value of the stolen goods is estimated, as their historical value is priceless, from the film break-in at the Louvre Museum according to Paris prosecutor Laure Beko.

“The damage was estimated by the curator of the Louvre at 88 million euros”, an “extremely impressive” amount, but “has nothing to do with the historical damage”, the prosecutor emphasized to RTL, clarifying that the perpetrators “they could never get that substantial amount “in case they have the very bad idea to dismantle and melt down these jewels.”

“We can perhaps hope that they will think about it and they won’t destroy these jewels for no reason,” the prosecutor emphasized. At the same time, he announced that four people who were present at the incident have been identified, while at the same time hinting that “around them” there were “groups” that “helped them carry out this theft”.

The possibility of an accomplice is open

Asked about the existence of an accomplice who has a place in the world’s most visited museum, Ms Beko left the possibility open, saying she could not “answer yes or no” at this stage. The prosecutor also said the lifting machine used in the theft was obtained by the perpetrators through a “bogus rental during an alleged move”.

“When one of the employees of this business presented himself at the moving site, he was confronted by two threatening men, who, however, did not use any violence against him.” he added, citing a lawsuit filing.

According to Beko, in addition to the investigators of the specialized Jirs team of the Paris prosecutor’s office, who are leading the investigations, “about 100” researchers have mobilized in Paris for the case.
