A small cadre of British planning officers has been sent to Israel to join a US-led coordination group tasked with supporting stabilization efforts in Gaza, the British Ministry of Defense announced.
The Gaza truce brokers, the United States, Egypt and Qatar, are stepping up efforts this week to consolidate the first stages of a truce between Israel and Hamas and advance US President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan.
The US-backed stabilization force, known as the Civil and Military Operations Coordination Center (CMCC), aims to ensure security in Gaza, although its composition, role and legal status have yet to be finalized.
The US has agreed to provide up to 200 troops to support the force, without deploying inside Gaza. Meanwhile, US officials said they are in contact with Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and Azerbaijan to contribute.
A spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense said that “a small number of British planning officers” have been embedded in the CMCC, including a deputy commander, clarifying that the mission ensures Britain’s participation in the US-coordinated stabilization efforts in post-war Gaza.
“The UK continues to work with international partners to support the ceasefire in Gaza and is considering where it can best contribute to the peace process,” he added.
According to British media, Defense Secretary John Healy said on Monday that Britain has “specialised experience and skills that it has brought forward to contribute”, adding that while it will not lead the effort, it will actively participate.
Healy noted that the mission was carried out at the request of the United States.
