At least 132 people have been killed during a deadly police operation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to the latest tally released Wednesday by the Rio de Janeiro public prosecutor’s office. Among the people killed are 4 police officers, according to Reuters.

The police operation against organized crime took place yesterday in the state of Rio and according to the police 113 have been arrested.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is surprised by the death toll in the operation and the fact that the government was not informed, according to the country’s justice minister, as reported by Reuters.
More than 40 bodies were lying early this morning on a street in the Penja favela complex in Rio de Janeiro, according to an eyewitness who spoke to Reuters.
