Slovakia: Supplies Ukraine with S-300 air defense system

by

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Eduard Heger, announced today that his country has supplied the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine to support the country fighting against the Russian invasion.

“I can confirm that the Slovak Republic has donated the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine,” Heger wrote in a Facebook post.

According to the Slovak Prime Minister, who is currently traveling by train to Kyiv, this “donation” is his country’s response to request for assistance provided by Ukraine in exercising its right to “self-defense”, in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.

The Russian-designed S-300 surface-to-air missile system was among the specific Ukrainian demands for arms deliveries from Western countries.

The Slovak prime minister stressed that handing over the air defense system “does not mean that Slovakia is involved in the armed conflict in Ukraine”.

According to him, this system “will help save as many innocent Ukrainians as possible” in the face of the aggression of the Russian regime of Vladimir Putin.
