Ukrainian medical examiners begin exhuming the dead from a mass grave in Bouka

by

Medical examiners today began exhuming the bodies of civilians by one mass grave in the Ukrainian city of Bukha, wrapping the corpses in black plastic bags. According to officials, the civilians were killed during the Russian invasion.

THE Ruslan Kravchenko from the prosecutor’s office in Bouka stressed that 20 bodies had been exhumed, 18 of which bore wounds and fragments of firearms. He added that two women were identified, one of whom worked in a supermarket in the city center.

“There are eyewitnesses who can confirm that these people were killed by Russian forces. For no reason, they were just walking down the street or away from the city. “he told Reuters.

He added that medical examiners will work to form a picture of what happened to those buried in the mass grave.

Medical examiners, dressed in white, covered the graves with plastic wrap as it rained.

Since Russian troops withdrew from Bukha last week, Ukrainian officials say hundreds of civilians have been found dead. THE deputy mayor of the city said that more than 360 civilians were killed and about 260-280 were buried in the mass grave by other residents.

Reuters could not verify this information from independent sources. The killing of civilians in Bouka has been widely condemned by the West as war crimes.

The Kremlin said on Tuesday that allegations that Russian forces had executed civilians in Bukhara were a “monstrous forgery” aimed at discrediting the Russian military. Moscow has seen the killing of civilians in Bukhara as a cynical ploy by Ukraine and its Western backers.
