Two days before the first round of the French presidential election, the gap between outgoing President Emanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen seems to be closing even further, reaching even one unit, according to opinion polls.
However, based on all the polls released today, Macron seems to be winning in the second round, albeit by a narrow margin.
The Elabe poll on behalf of the TV channel BFM, which was published on its website, brings Macron in the first round with a percentage of 26% against 25% for Lepen.
In other words, Macron loses two points compared to the previous poll of the same company, while Lepen wins two. The surprise is made by the candidate of the left, Jean-Luc Melanson, who is ranked third, with a percentage of 17.5%.
Former far-right journalist Eric Zemour, who for some time seemed capable of threatening Macron, has only 8.5%, but is ahead of Republican nominee Valerie Pecres (8%).
In the second round, Macron appears to be losing ground, but to win again Lepen, scoring 51%.
This reduction in the difference is recorded in all the polls announced today, hours before the end of the pre-election period.
According to company polls IFOP-Fiducial for the media Paris Match, LCI and Sud Radio, Macron leads the first round with 26%, followed by Lepen with 24% and Melanson with 17%. In the second round, Macron emerges victorious with a percentage of 52%.
The margin of statistical error, however, amounts to +/- 1.4 to 3.1 points.
Macron and Le Pen are ahead with 26.5% and 23% respectively in the Ipsos-Sopra Steria poll for France Info and the newspaper Le Parisien.
The poll was conducted on April 6-8 on a sample of 1,709 voters and has a margin of statistical error of +/- 1.4 to 2.2 points. In the second round, he gives Macron the winner with a percentage of 53%.
