Authorities in China’s financial capital, Shanghai, warned today that anyone violating the rules lockdown imposed on the city due to covid-19 will be dealt with severely.
The police of Shanghai presented in detail the restrictions that affect more than 25 million inhabitants of the city and asked them “to fight the epidemic with one heart (…) and work together for a quick victory.”
“Those who violate these measures will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law by the public security bodies (…) If their acts are a crime, they will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the police said in a statement.
THE Shanghai is trying to deal with the biggest outbreak of covid-19 recorded in China since the new coronavirus was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.
The police also pointed out that traffic is prohibited vehicles on city streets, with the exception of those working to stop the pandemic and those transporting people in urgent need of medical assistance.

In the previous 24 hours, 25,141 new asymptomatic infections were registered in Shanghai, an increase from the 22,348 reported for Monday. Symptomatic infections also increased, reaching 1,189 from 994.
The strict measures adopted in Shanghai, based on China’s strict “zero tolerance to covid-19” policy aimed at curbing the spread of the disease, are affecting the world economy, with analysts warning that it does not only affect tourism , but also the supply chains of many sectors.
At least 11 Taiwanese companies, most of them manufacturers of components for electronic devices, announced today that they are suspending their production due to restrictive measures imposed in Shanghai.
However, the Caixin news group, citing an unannounced government plan, said Shanghai was one of eight Chinese cities participating in a pilot program aimed at easing quarantine measures.
The program started on Monday and provides for the reduction of quarantine to 10 days from 14 previously.
