Washington believes that the Russian cruiser “Moskva” continues to burn and that there are attempts to extinguish the fire, while the ship is reportedly heading to Sevastopol, said this afternoon a senior official of the US Department of Defense.
“Our assessment is that it appears that there is still fire on the ship and that there are efforts to put out the fire.”the official said, adding that the ship is believed to have suffered significant damage.
The main missile cruiser of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Moskva (“Moscow”), suffered “serious damage” after part of the ammunition was detonated on its deck after a fire, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Moscow said the warship’s crew had been evacuated and measures were taken to tow the cruiser to the port.
The southern military command of the Ukrainian army announced earlier today that it had hit the Russian cruiser “Moskva” with Neptune anti-ship missiles, causing great damage, while adding that the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has begun to sink.
