Brickner right now is serving a sentence in Oldenburg Prison, in northern Germany, for the rape of a woman in 2005 in the same area of ​​the Algarve region of Portugal, where Madeleine went missing.

The suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance, also known as Christian B in Germany due to the country’s strict privacy laws, was found guilty in 2019 of rape of a 72-year-old American woman and sentenced to seven years in prison.

A federal court in Karlsruhe, southwestern Germany, dismissed an appeal against the sentence in November 2020.
