Boris Johnson: Announces Reopening of British Embassy in Kyiv

by

The West can not passively monitor Putin’s attacks on Ukraine, said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson from New Delhi.

He added that according to the BBC, the extraordinary strength of Ukrainian President Zhelensky and the Ukrainian people, who are resisting Russian forces, allow the United Kingdom to take the step and reopen the British embassy in Kyiv next week.

He added that he paid tribute to the British diplomats who remained in the area.

This announcement follows Johnson’s unexpected visit to Kyivto meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, a few days ago.

At the same time, diplomats from other European countries are returning to the Ukrainian capital after an improvement in the security situation with the withdrawal of Russian forces.

Britain moved its embassy to the western Ukrainian city of Lviv in February shortly after the start of the war.

Then in early March, Secretary of State Liz Tras announced that Ambassador Melinda Simmons had left the country due to the “serious security situation”.

Boris Johnson was received by his Indian counterpart Narendra Monti on the second and final day of his official visit to India, which is, however, overshadowed by the British Prime Minister’s referral to parliamentary inquiry into partygate.
