Russia is ready to stop the attacks and allow the release of those inside the Azovstal factory, the Tass news agency quoted the Russian Ministry of Defense as saying.
According to the ministry, the allegations of Ukraine and some Western countries that Russia forbids civilians to leave the city are “unfounded”, TASS reported.
The ceasefire for humanitarian reasons will begin as soon as the Ukrainian forces in factorysealed by the Russian army, rise white flagssaid the head of the Center for National Defense Command of Russia, Mikhail Mizintsev.
“The ceasefire for humanitarian reasons will begin when Ukrainian forces raise white flags around the perimeter or on certain routes leading outside the Azofstal” he said.
Mizinchev said that as soon as white flags were hoisted on roads leading out of Azovstal, the Russian army and Donetsk forces would end all military operations and guarantee a safe exit to the humanitarian corridors.
According to the Russian agency, the evacuation can be done either to territories controlled by Ukrainian forces or to Russia. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, life and security are guaranteed for all those who surrender.
This “humanitarian initiative” is valid 24 hours a day, the ministry continues, clarifying that “buses and cars”, as well as ambulances, are permanently available and ready to “transport people”.
So far, Ukraine has not responded to the Russian proposal.
