The head of the Russian negotiators confirmed a report, according to which “long-term talks” took place today with the head of the Ukrainian delegation in the framework of the peace negotiations between the two sides.

Vladimir Medinsky did not elaborate on the content of the talks.

Earlier in the week, the Kremlin announced that Russia had submitted a new written proposal, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had not seen or heard of it.

In a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and European Council President Charles Michel today, the Russian president said he would sit at the same table for direct talks with Volodymyr Zelensky only if the talks lead to concrete results.

He added that Kyiv is not yet ready to seek mutually acceptable solutions and that Ukraine is unpredictable in the negotiations.

In a telephone interview, Michel stressed “strongly and clearly” that the war in Ukraine was unacceptable and described in detail the cost of EU sanctions on Russia.

Michel also demanded a truce on the occasion of Orthodox Easter and called for humanitarian corridors to be opened so that civilians could safely leave besieged cities such as Mariupol.

Their telephone conversation followed Michel’s visit to Ukraine on Wednesday.
