Russia: Kremlin Critic Vladimir Kara-Murza Detained

The Russian opposition Vladimir Kara-Murzahis fierce critic Kremlinwas placed on probation today booking until Juneas part of an investigation into “false information” about military operations in Ukraine, according to his lawyer.

Earlier in the day, Vadim Prokorov announced that Kara-Murza had been questioned by Russia’s Investigative Committee as part of an investigation into “false information” about the military.

Kara-Murza, 40, has repeatedly criticized Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine in recent weeks, most notably on social media.

Before being taken into custody, he was taken to prisonas he was sentenced, on 12 April, to 15 days imprisonment for “disobedience to law enforcement.”

In addition, the Russian Ministry of Justice today added Kara-Murza to the list of “foreign agents” and listed him as Ukrainian agent.

The former journalist was a close associate of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was assassinated near the Kremlin in 2015. He had also worked for the organizations of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a former Russian oligarch who became a critic of Vladimir Putin.
