More than 5.3 million Ukrainian refugees have fled the country since the Russian-led invasion began two months ago, according to figures released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) today.

Although their flow has clearly slowed since March, the UN expects to have three million more by the end of the year.

According to the UNHCR, on April 26, 5,317,219 Ukrainians had fled their country since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, that is, 52,452 more than the previous day’s count.

Women and children make up 90% of these refugees, as men between the ages of 18 and 60, who are of conscription age, are not allowed to leave the country.

About two-thirds of Ukrainian children have left their homes, including those still in the country.

More than 7.7 million people have fled their homes but are still in Ukraine, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
