by

US President Joe Biden will ask Congress to release another $ 33 billion for Ukraine. 20 billion of which will provide military assistance, a senior US official said today.

Biden will also propose the liquidation of assets of Russian oligarchs to compensate Ukraine for its losses. To implement this proposal is needed the assent of Congress.

Of the $ 33 billion, $ 20 billion will be for weapons, ammunition and other military aid, $ 8.5 billion will be for direct financial assistance to the Ukrainian government, and the remaining $ 3 billion will be for humanitarian and food aid.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, US military aid amounted to $ 3 billion. According to the US government, the US and its European allies have frozen the assets of Russian oligarchs, valued at $ 30 billion, such as yachts, helicopters, buildings and works of art.

The sanctions package – for which the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the State Department and the Ministry of Commerce worked together – will “create new principles for the confiscation of related property with Russian kleptocracy“It will allow the government to use the proceeds to support Ukraine and further strengthen its law enforcement tools,” the White House said in a statement.

It will be allowed the confiscation of assets that Russian oligarchs could use to avoid sanctions, giving the Ministry of Justice more flexibility in dealing with those who evade them.
