by

There is no particular concern regarding the incidence of acute hepatitis in children, according to what Mina Gaga, Deputy Minister of Health, said during the briefing on the course of the coronary heart disease in Greece, which took place at the Ministry of Health.

Ms. Gaga was reassuring, stressing that we need to be careful but not worry.

He stressed that the health authorities are on alert anywayand explained that the cases were not connected to each other.

The Deputy Minister of Health called on parents to monitor the clinical picture of their children and if they see suspicious symptoms (eg in the color of urine) to consult a doctor.

At the same time, it was pointed out that parents do not need to worry about their child getting stuck through playing with other children, advising parents not to prevent children from playing with each other.

About the cases of acute hepatitis in children, the professor of epidemiology and member of the Committee of Experts of the Ministry of Health Gikas Majorkinis spoke about extremely rare complication which had an outbreak in late March, early April in the UK, and was more likely to be considered an adenovirus.

“We are monitoring studies and incidents abroad, it is a phenomenon of strengthening a widespread virus, but we are talking about a rare situation,” he stressed.

“At the moment we recommend parents to follow the rules of hygiene in their children. “It remains to be seen from the studies if it is only an adenovirus or if there is something else,” he explained.

“There are ongoing studies to understand why such an extremely common virus has started to cause such a problem,” he said.
