Gillian Maxwell’s appeal in an attempt to overturn her conviction, in December 2021, for human trafficking was rejected by a US court yesterday, Friday.
The 60-year-old British woman was found guilty of promoting underage girls to her ex-partner Jeffrey Epstein in order for him to sexually exploit them.
Court President Allison Nathan upheld Maxwell’s guilt on three of the five charges – including human trafficking – for which he was convicted, noting that the jury’s verdict was supported by witness testimony and evidence presented during the hearing.
Nathan rejected the convictions on two of the charges, a development that may reduce Maxwell’s sentence. As he said, three of the charges related to essentially the same offense, so he upheld only one of them.
US stockbroker Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes, committed suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019, at the age of 66, pending his trial for human trafficking charges.
