Germany: Injured in incidents between far-right and anti-protesters

by

Several people were injured in incidents between far-right protesters and protesters on their way to or from a march in Zwickau (east) on Sunday, police said.

Four extreme right-wingers were injured as they returned from the march. They were attacked after leaving the Krimitsau railway station.

The injured were conscious, but were taken to hospital with head and arm injuries. Police are investigating the disturbance of common peace and causing serious physical harm; seeking six to ten persons belonging to a group of farmers, among them a woman.

Earlier, far-right threw stones at a train carrying left-wing activists as it reached Glauchau station, law enforcement officials said.

Police arrested 37 far-right extremists there, according to a spokesman. One protester was seriously injured and two slightly injured.

One of the perpetrators of the Glauhau attack greeted Hitler and another wore a swastika, a police spokesman said.

Incidents occurred earlier yesterday at a train station in Chemnitz, a short distance away. About 50 far-right people were evacuated from a train heading to Zwickau. Police did not provide further details.

About 500 far-rightists were expected to take part in the march in Zwickau, following a call from the far-right Der Dritte Weg party.
