Kuleba: EU countries that will not implement the embargo on Russian oil are complicit in war crimes

by

European Union member states that refuse to implement embargo on Russian oil will be “complicit” in war crimes, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said today.

“If a European country continues to oppose the embargo on Russian oil, then it would be fair to say that this country is an accomplice to the crimes committed by Russia on Ukrainian territory“, Said Kuleba in a video posted on Twitter.

Earlier today Hungary rejected this proposal of Brussels “in its present form”, considering that such a measure “would completely destroy the energy security” of the country.

In Hungary, which will be excluded, along with Slovakiafrom the European proposal to ban Russian oil imports until the end of 2023, the government spokesman reacted to the European Commission proposal by stating that he “does not see guarantees for the energy security” of his country.

Based on the Commission proposal, Hungary and Slovakia will be able to to buy Russian crude by the end of 2023 under existing contracts, a European source told Reuters. The Commission recommends that the remaining countries ban imports of Russian crude within six months and refining products by the end of the year.

Her proposal Commission is under discussion. It needs the support of all EU governments to adopt it.

Hungary, which is heavily dependent on Russian oil, has repeatedly said it will not sign any energy sanctions. Foreign Minister Peter Sigiarto, in a videotaped message posted on his Facebook page, noted that the “extension” given to his country “is not enough”. “Russian oil deliveries” that “are necessary for Hungary to operate” “would be banned from the end of next year”, which for him is considered “impossible”: “Just about the reality in terms of geography and infrastructure,” he explained.

According to Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs, 65% of the oil and 85% of the gas consumed in Hungary comes from Russia.
