Escape the horror of war and enjoy the warmth of Crete newborn baby boy from Ukraine

by

A chain of solidarity has been set up in the center of Heraklion, to embrace and care with affection and care for the first baby from Ukraine born in Crete.

The baby boy was born on April 29 in PAGNI and enjoys extreme health with his mother Alpina, who managed to escape the hell of war and give birth in Crete.

According to the newspaper Patrice, little Mark was born 3,400 gr. weight and height 50 cm and a few days after his birth his father managed to reach Heraklion and hug him for the first time.

The family tries to find its way into the new reality that lives away from the fires of war and to build its life from scratch. From the first moment, their compatriot Tatiana Karpova, who has made a huge contribution to the support of refugees from war-torn Ukraine, stood by the young couple. As Ms. Karpova describes speaking to “P”, the young Albina from the 8th month of her pregnancy was hospitalized, where they monitored the progress of her pregnancy.

However, the sirens sounded at intervals, so the young Ukrainian, who was in an advanced stage of pregnancy, was forced to walk down the protection area on the ground floor of the hospital for protection reasons. This was a great ordeal for the young girl, who, fearing that the birth of her child would have complications, decided to leave her homeland and come to Crete. The choice was not accidental, as in Heraklion, which she had visited again in the past, lives a relative of hers.

The Municipality of Heraklion was by the side of the young couple from the first moment, as the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, Rena Papadaki-Skalidi, hurried to help in any way, as the required expenses are not small… A washing machine, milk, a diaper breast pump… and whatever else little Mark needs to grow up in a quiet environment away from the horrors of war.

Ms. Rena Papadaki in her statements to “P” emphasizes that for two months now the Municipality of Heraklion has not stopped collecting humanitarian aid for the hard-working people of Ukraine at the Theater Station. Three trucks have already been sent with humanitarian aid and the goal is to continue this effort.

Specifically, gather among other types of first aid and pharmacy, non-sterile gloves, non-traumatic scissors, bandages (sterile and non-sterile, elastic, burn), non-mercury thermometers, thermal blankets, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, eye patches (shields), hypothermic bags.

Also thermal underwear, blankets, duvets and long lasting products such as canned food, cereals, pasta, milk.

Ms. Tatiana Karpova emphasizes the importance of continuing this truly moving effort to raise food and humanitarian aid that relieves dozens of families living through the unbearable horrors of war.
