“Leave to escape Russian missile attacks,” says Ivano-Frankivsk mayor

THE Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, in western Ukraineurged residents today to avoid public gatherings at the weekend or even to leave the city if they can, to escape possible Russian missile attacks.

Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia could step up its attack on Ukraine before May 9, when Moscow celebrates the anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiev said in a video message that he had canceled all official events scheduled for Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the city. “We have reliable information, the enemy unfortunately wants to carry out other missile attacks and therefore on the 7th, 8th and 9th (of the month) we will not have public events, including prayer. For your safety, I invite you (…) during these three days to stay at your homes (…) or leave the city if you can “he said.

The mayor did not give any explanation for the “information” to which he referred.
