by

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky summoned the German chancellor today Olaf Solts to take a “strong step” and visit Kyiv on May 9, the day Russia commemorates the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II.

Speaking through a translator in the British think tank Chatham House, Zelensky unleashed hatred against Russia, especially in relation to situation in Mariupolwhere Kyiv stresses that civilians are still hiding in the dilapidated factory Azofstal steel under siege.

The Ukrainian president made this invitation to Soltz after tension in relations between the two countries when the German president was not allowed to visit Kyiv last month.

“He is invited, the invitation is open, it has been done for a long time,” Zelenski said via video.

«He has been invited to come to Ukrainecan take this very powerful political step to get here on May 9th, in Kyiv. “I do not explain the importance, I think you are cultured to understand why.”

Victory Day on May 9 is one of Russia’s most important national anniversaries – a commemoration of Soviet sacrifice for the defeat of Nazi Germany in what Russia calls the Great Patriotic War.

In Mariupol, the Ukrainian president stressed that the situation there amounted to “torture” and that no talks could take place with Russia if these civilians or troops were killed when they could have been released.
