Ukraine today asked Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to organize a mission to remove and treat trapped soldiers in Mariupol’s Azofstal.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Veresuk has sent a letter to Michel-Olivier Lassarite, head of humanitarian missions and head of the MSF in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Reintegration of the Provisional Occupied Territories.
Kyiv is urging MSF to launch a mission to oust the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal and provide medical care to the wounded, whose “human rights are being violated by the Russian Federation,” the statement said.
The Ukrainian defenders of the vast factory “have been under constant bombardment and attacks by the Russian army for 72 days” and because they do not have medicine, water and food, “the wounded are dying of gangrene and sepsis.”
Earlier in the day, Kyiv announced that all women, children and the elderly trapped in Azovstal had been removed from the last enclave of resistance by Ukrainian forces in Mariupol.
