USA: Couple played crown or letters about which adjective they will keep after the wedding

by

Viral became a couple who tossed a coin because they could not decide which last name to keep after the wedding. As reported in Insider, Pearl and Colin often throw crowns or letters when they can not decide on something.

Pearl and Colin met while working in their college library. The two of them did the Friday night shifts that no one else wanted, and so they had the opportunity to get to know each other better and fall in love.

In November 2021, Colin proposed to his beloved and they were married on March 26, 2022.

One of the issues that the couple was concerned about, however, was what surname they would keep. Both Pearl Lee and Colin Hansen are the only members of their families who would continue their surnames for future generations. In fact, Pearl was not very happy with the idea of changing her last name because her students knew her as Mrs. Li, so far.

In an attempt to decide which surname to choose, Pearl heard an episode of the “Freakonomics” podcast in which someone joked that she wished they had tossed a coin to decide their surname when they got married.

“I got the idea,” admits Pearl. “It seemed very funny to me,” he said.

The joke came true

Eventually, what started as a joke came true, as the couple decided to play “crown or letters” for the adjective.

During the wedding ceremony, then, after the vows, the man who married them returned the coin in order to decide the surname. Colin won and so the couple now has the surname Hansen.

The moment was captured in a video of the couple’s friend that went viral on TikTok.

The Hansens had no idea they were going viral until their friends started texting them while they were on their honeymoon.

“It was honestly so ironic that the reason we would gain 15 minutes of fame was a currency reversal,” Pearl said.
