Scenes of chaos unfolded on a flight from the United Kingdom to Chania when a drunken Briton and his friends attacked the pilot of a Wizz Air aircraft, while passengers were also slightly injured.

The quarrel started shortly after the landing of the flight at Chania airport. The British passenger and his friends behaved badly throughout the flight that had started from Gatwick in London and went beyond the limits, when he was informed that the police would accompany him outside the airport. The pilot came out of the cockpit in an attempt to calm the situation, but then received punches from the 30-year-old passengers, according to testimonies.

A 37-year-old woman who was traveling in Crete with her husband, told the British newspaper The Sun: “This man and his friend were so loud and cursed throughout the flight. But something happened when the flight attendant told them that the police would take them off the plane when we landed. He started throwing punches as a group of other passengers tried to hold him. The pilot came out and the guy hit him. He seemed to be fine, but logically he was quite upset. “It was a shame.”

Some passengers escaped from the back exit, but were forced to wait two hours at safety, giving statements to the police, with the result that many lost their transfers.

The announcement of the company

A Wizz Air spokesman said:

“On Wizz Air flight W95741 from Gatwick to Chania, a passenger became unruly. The cabin crew handled the situation as trained and reported the incident to the competent authorities, who arrested the passenger on arrival.

Wizz Air confirms that the crew was asked to go to the airport police station to testify in the case, at which point the crew had completed their service time limit and needed time to rest before the return flight to Gatwick.

“Unfortunately, this meant that flight W95742 from Chania – Gatwick had to be rescheduled. The flight departed at 16:10 local time.

“Wizz Air sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused, but passenger and crew safety is the airline’s number one priority.”
