Multinational exercise of civil-military cooperation under the name “ARGONAFTIS 2022“, Takes place from 16 to 20 May 2022 in the sea, air and land area of the Republic of Cyprus.
The exercise, which was postponed for the previous two years due to the pandemic, is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense of Cyprus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Civil Defense Force and the Rescue Search Coordination Center, planned and coordinated by the GEEF, while in various phases. A number of government agencies and services will be involved. The Republic of Cyprus, Greece, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Egypt, the United States and Israel are participating in this year’s exercise.
As part of the exercise, the Special National Plans (ECA) “FOCUS” and “ΤΕΥΚΡΟΣ»Concerning the reception of civilians from neighboring areas, as well as the response to search and rescue incidents within the area of responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Cyprus, the 1st phase of the exercise will take place from 16 to 20 May 2022 and will concern an exercise on paper of the states participating in the informal group of NEW CG (Non-combatant Evacuation Operations Coordination Group) for the implementation the process of evacuating civilians from a neighboring crisis country and repatriating them.
The 2nd phase (17 – 19 May) that will be executed for the first time, concerns exercise on paper and implementation of the ECA “ESTIA”, with a scenario of evacuation of civilians from the crisis area. This phase will take place in the port of Limassol.
The 3rd phase of the exercise, which will be held as part of the Day of Distinguished Visitors (DVDay), will take place on May 20 in a sea area south of Cyprus and concerns the implementation of the ECA “TEFKROS”, with a scenario of dealing with a serious maritime accident at sea . This phase will be attended by the Coordination Center “ZENO“, Distinguished visitors, diplomats and observers from abroad.
