While Finland takes its first steps for NATO membership, A small Finnish brewery has launched a new beer with the και alliance brand and name. Named OTAN (the French variant of the North Atlantic Alliance name), the blue beer label includes a cartoon figure wearing a metal armor, symbolizing the NATO compass.
The beer is brewed by Olaf Brewing, a Savonnina-based company, and marks the company’s first… invasion of world events, at least in terms of marketing.
“It simply came to our notice then take a special position on political issues. Now, however, the majority of Finns support the decision to (join) NATO. That is why we dared to take such a step and it did not really require much courage, we just decided to do it “, said the CEO of the company, Peteri Vadinen.
The company had been considering launching a NATO-brand beer for some time, but the final decision was made at the weekend, as it became clear that Finland would formally apply to join the military alliance.
“We would not do it if we did not think it was good for Finland and its security,” Vandinen explained, noting that it is easy for small breweries to make quick decisions.
“Never again”
The location of the brewery in Savonnina also played a role in the “genesis” of beer under the NATO logo, as the city was bombed. from Russian planes during World War II. Vadinen said his grandmother still remembers the bombs that exploded in the city center.
“We hope that after the NATO decision, we will never have to see such events again in Savonlinna or Finland,” Vandinen said.
The company’s new beer has already piqued the interest of shopkeepers and restaurants. “The phone rang all morning and people were asking ‘when can you deliver?'” He explained. “It’s pretty crazy.”
