Meeting of the Archbishop of Australia with the Prime Minister of Victoria

Meeting of the Archbishop of Australia Mr. Makarios was held in Melbourneand in particular in the building of the local Parliament of Victoria, with Prime Minister Daniel Andrews. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation between the two men and on the agenda of the discussions were issues that concern the Hellenism of the two Archdiocese of Victoria, Melbourne and North Coast.

Among the topics discussed were the further development, renovation and utilization of the “Axion Estin” building in North Coast. This is an ambitious plan of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and His Holiness, which looks forward to the opening of the buildings and spaces that will be designed and the possibility of their use by the Greek community and especially the young.

At the same time, it was discussed the possibility of finding a suitable plot for the construction of the Holy Cathedral of the Greeks in Melbourne, a desire of Greek immigrants which Mr. Makarios is going to realize. Prime Minister Andrews shared the Archbishop’s anguish and showed keen interest in both of the local Church’s proposed ambitious plans.

The Archbishop was accompanied by the Bishops of Sozopolis Mr. Kyriakos and Kerasountos Mr. Eumenios, the Archdeacon Mr. Athenagoras Karakonstantakis, the Deacon Mr. Irineos Koikas, while from the side of the Prime Minister, present at the meeting were MPs Steve Dimopoulos and Lee.
