Azofstal: Another 771 Ukrainian fighters surrendered – Red Cross begins recording prisoners of war

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that 771 Ukrainian fighters delivered in the last 24 hours by the steel industry Azofstal in Mariupolbringing to 1,730 the total number of Ukrainian fighters surrendered since Monday, the Russian news agency RIA reported.

The ministry said 80 of them were injured.

Hundreds of Ukrainian fighters have surrendered as they emerged from the labyrinth of bunkers and tunnels beneath the plant, although Moscow and Kyiv have given different estimates of the numbers.

His International Committee Red Cross (DEES) announced today that it has begun registering hundreds of prisoners of war from Azofstal.

The ICRC said in a statement that the operation to monitor the fighters leaving the factory, including the wounded, began on Tuesday and continues today.

As part of this process, the ICC records information from individuals to monitor those who have been taken prisoner.

The ICRC adds that it does not transport prisoners to the places where they are being held.
