After complaints, New York will regulate the price of beer at airports

by

The phrase “it’s so expensive it looks like an airport price” is not limited to Brazil, but New York wants to change that and will limit the rise in prices.

The higher price inside airport terminals is a worldwide reality. Considering the maintenance of a store where all employees need to be accredited by the authorities, the required level of security brings a high cost and the offer is limited for a great demand, the result tends to be a high price to the final consumer.

Even so, exaggerations can occur, since inside the departure lounge, mainly, the passenger does not have many options. One case in particular generated quite a stir last year when a passenger found a $27 beer at a New York airport. The same beer, at the time, could be found for $7 a bottle in the supermarket, and less than $15 on the street.

Following the complaint on Twitter, an investigation was opened by the Port Authority of New York, which is responsible for La Guardia, JFK and Newark airports. As a result of this process, abuse by sellers was found, who were also charging a 10% pandemic compensation fee, which does not go to the waiters, leaving the tip and extra fee, which are not included in the exposed price. , on behalf of the customer.

Finally, according to The Points Guy, the New York Authority will limit the maximum amount to be charged for products inside the airport, which cannot be more than 10% higher than the price charged in high street stores. According to the government, this policy was not clear in the contract granting the license to operate at the airport, but it will be modified. It is unclear when this new figure will go into effect, but it should take place soon, before the start of the summer season in July.
