Elon Musk’s lightning visit to Brazil cost BRL 300,000 just for jet fuel

by

Elon Musk’s coming to Brazil was one of the most talked about topics of the last week. Accustomed to billionaire business, the tycoon flew to the interior of São Paulo aboard his US$ 66 million Gulfstream G650ER business jet. The quick passage through the country, of course, also came at a high cost, which, for Musk, was certainly an investment.

The round trip flights from Texas to Catarina airport, in São Roque (SP), lasted around 9 hours each leg, the fuel consumption on this journey draws attention. Around 37,000 liters of aviation kerosene are consumed by the two Rolls-Royce BR725 engines in the two stages.

The monetary cost of this fuel is around US$ 58,671, or R$ 286 thousand at the current price. Already the carbon emissions in the atmosphere draw more attention: around 96 tons were emitted, but this number can vary.

The estimates were made by the page ElonJet, which was created by a young American in order to monitor each time the billionaire’s jet takes off. For this, he uses a robot that checks the flight tracking platforms. Despite Musk’s jet being blocked in most of them, there are others that use unfiltered data and therefore allow you to follow the billionaire’s Gulfstream (legally).
