President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) criticized the speech of members of the opposition that the return of former president Lula (PT) to the Planalto Palace would lead to a reduction in fuel prices. In a conversation with supporters released this Tuesday (24), the Chief Executive did not mention the PT, but mocked those who say that gasoline will cost R$ 3 again if the current government does not continue in power.
Supporters, however, did not understand the irony and applauded him after he mentioned the possibility of fuel prices returning to levels of years ago. “Always that easy speech, save, help, gasoline will go back to R$3. Worldwide it is R$12, only here it will go back to R$3”, he said.
After the applause, he explained: “Wait a minute, wait a minute. That’s what the guy says, hey,” he said.
Bolsonaro has repeated the speech that inflation is a global problem and that it is not responsible for the rise in prices.
In addition, he also often blames restrictive measures imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic by governors and mayors for the economic crisis.
Lula, in turn, often criticizes the current government’s policy in relation to Petrobras and criticizes, for example, the privatization of BR Distribuidora.
The current president fears the electoral impact of the recurring increases in fuel prices and has taken several measures to try to solve the problem.
This month, he changed the Minister of Mines and Energy and the president of Petrobras in an attempt to find a formula to reduce prices.
The change in command of the state-owned oil company, for example, took place after the announcement of an 8.87% readjustment in the price of diesel. In another attempt to share the burden by the high values, the president has also made a crusade against taxes levied by governors on fuel.
