Panel SA: Christmas decoration stock faces crisis on the 25th of March

by

The commerce on 25 de Março street, in the center of São Paulo, is facing a crisis of low stock of Christmas decoration products this year, according to shopkeepers in the region.

The unfavorable exchange rate and the lack of containers for the maritime transport of cargoes hampered imports, says Pierre Sarruf, director of Univinco (União dos Lojistas da Rua 25 de Março and Adjacências).

Traditionally, more than 50% of decorations are brought in from abroad, which has raised costs this year. To circumvent the increase, shopkeepers reduced the replenishment of merchandise and put up for sale stock from previous years, according to Sarruf.

“Those who prepared are managing to have a good sales volume. Those who left it to the last minute are having difficulty. Some stores are out of stock and with less novelty”, he says.

The high price also changed the behavior of consumers, who have opted for cheaper items this year.

“The sale is happening, but we realize that the consumer has a certain limitation to take everything he wants and is not buying at any price,” he says.
