In addition to the splits in the European Union and NATO in relation to the war, led by Hungary and Turkey, the Italian Corriere della Sera publishes that the United Kingdom has proposed and is negotiating, if the EU does not accept Ukraine, “a European commonwealth that would have the UK as a leader and would encompass Ukraine, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania”, among others.
Not coincidentally, Sunday’s headline in the Financial Times, “Baltic countries attack Franco-German talks with Russia.”
In the same direction, the English The Observer, Sunday edition of the Guardian, had already published that “Johnson is using crisis in Ukraine to launch British comeback in Europe”. To do so, he resorts to the Joint Expeditionary Force, a group not linked to the EU and which brings together the aforementioned countries, plus the Nordics. It is “led by the UK”.
In short, London “courts the eastern and northern flanks of Europe, vying with France and Germany for power and influence.”
EXPLORATION
English tabloids such as the Daily Mail and Mirror had previously explored that pornographic sites were “encouraging men to live out ‘war-inspired fantasies’ by paying for sex with Ukrainian women who fled the war”.
And now Japanese newspapers are reporting that its government “warns Ukrainian refugees against working in adult entertainment establishments”, saying that “there have been cases”.
USA VS. UN
The week-long trip to China by UN human rights commissioner Michelle Bachelet, former president of Chile, did not end well, for the American press.
At the top of the Washington Post, “How the UN Became a Propaganda Tool for China”. For the New York Times, she “offered limited criticism” of Beijing, showing how “China’s growing global influence translates into growing influence within the UN.”
The NYT charged Bachelet that “one of her longest responses, in the 45-minute press conference, was to a question from Chinese state TV” about the slaughter of children in Texas, USA.
The Wall Street Journal reported that “during the 45-minute press conference, the UN moderator twice called a reporter from Guangzhou’s Nanfang newspaper to ask questions, ignoring dozens of other journalists who had signaled an interest in asking questions.”
