Mônica Bergamo: Group of lawyers says they are concerned about pressure from Bolsonaro against XP

by

The Prerogativas group, made up of jurists and lawyers who support former President Lula (PT), says it follows with concern the pressures of Bolsonaristas against XP Investimentos.

As the column revealed this Wednesday (8), the brokerage even canceled the disclosure of a survey that presented the PT in front of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

In the assessment of Prerogativas, the attacks by the Chief Executive against the Superior Electoral Court and the Federal Supreme Court also began to affect the opinion polls of the electorate.

“The Prerogativas group, which believes in the security of electronic voting machines and trusts the impartiality of the TSE [Tribunal Superior Eleitoral] in the conduct of the electoral process, follows with concern the pressure against the broker XP Investimentos”, he says in a note.

“Given the gravity of the fact, the Prerogativas group will continue to act, as it has always done, in defense of the democratic rule of law, for the guarantee of free elections and without interference from the economic power, nor for the manipulation of the will of the electorate and of polls of opinion”, it goes on.

The Ipespe Institute survey that would be released by XP Investimentos next Friday (10) was even registered at the Superior Electoral Court on Saturday (4), under the number BR-06295/2022.

This Wednesday (8), however, it was removed from the site by determination of the brokerage itself.

The column found that pressure on XP was already growing gradually and exploded last week, when the institute showed that 35% of voters consider honesty an attribute of Lula, against 30% who say the same about Bolsonaro.

Bolsonaristas began to attack the brokerage on social networks – one of the most notorious of them was Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who mocked the results on his profile on Telegram. “The same institute gave Lula with 45% and Bolsonaro with 34% kkkkk”, wrote Flávio.

Bolsonaro ministers have also called XP to complain about the results — which coincide with those of other institutes, within the margin of error.

In the wake of the attacks, clients, especially those linked to agribusiness, began to close accounts and withdraw investments from the brokerage, according to the column.

With the intensity of the attacks, XP ended up taking the radical decision to simply cancel the publication of its results. Sought, the brokerage stated that it hires other research institutes and that it will continue to disclose data.

“The current president’s ongoing attacks against the Superior Electoral Court and the Federal Supreme Court, which have worried Democrats across the country, have now extended to the electorate’s opinion polls – all of them pointing in sequence to the eventual victory of President Lula in the October 2nd.

Dissatisfied with the repudiation of his government and the condemnation of his administration, responsible for the thousands of deaths by Covid-19, the famine, the unemployment, the hunger that plagues 33 million people, the President of the Republic wants to prevent the disapproval from appearing, eliminating polls from research institutes, or, at least, interfering to, who knows, reap more auspicious results.

The Prerogativas group, which believes in the security of electronic voting machines and trusts the TSE to be impartial in the conduct of the electoral process, is following with concern the pressure against broker XP Investimentos, to prevent the dissemination of the survey by Instituto Ipespe, which had been published weekly.

Besieged by congressional bolsonaristas and supporters linked to agribusiness, XP ended up giving in to pressure and removed the survey from the site. The last straw was the opinion, in last week’s poll, according to which 35% of those interviewed considered honesty an attribute of Lula, against 30% of the current president.

Faced with the seriousness of the fact, the Prerogativas group will continue to act, as it has always done, in defense of the Democratic State of Law, for the guarantee of free elections and without interference from economic power, nor for the manipulation of the will of the electorate and of opinion polls. .”
