Businesswoman Luiza Trajano, chairman of the board of directors of Magazine Luiza, was removed from Forbes’ list of billionaires after her fortune fell to less than US$ 1 billion.

According to the magazine’s publication on Tuesday (14), the executive’s fortune had been falling since July 16, 2021, when it reached a record US$ 5.6 billion (R$ 28.6 billion, in current values). ).

Trajano’s departure follows the negative performance of Magazine Luiza on the stock exchange, a reflection of the current Brazilian economic scenario, marked by inflation and high interest rates.

In the last 11 months, the company’s shares have fallen by about 90%, from R$24, in mid-2021, to the current R$2.55.

With the fall in the value of the shares, the businesswoman saw her wealth fall to less than US$ 1 billion. Forbes did not indicate how much the fortune is currently, but, considering the value in reais, it would need to be less than US$ 196 million for Trajano to stop being a billionaire in Brazil.

According to Forbes, in December 2021, Trajano’s fortune had already shrunk to US$ 1.4 billion (R$ 7.1 billion), which represents a devaluation of 75% in relation to the record reached in July of the year. last year. In six months, the businesswoman suffered a loss of US$ 4.2 billion (R$ 21.5 billion).

Currently, Trajano owns just over 17% of Magazine Luiza, a company that was founded in 1957 by his parents and named after his mother (also called Luiza).

In 2015, the executive passed the position of CEO to her son Frederico and, since then, she has held the position of chairman of the board.
