Caoa Chery will produce flex-fuel hybrids at a plant in Goiás

by

The automaker Caoa Chery announced this Wednesday (15) that it will start producing cars with a flex-hybrid engine at its plant in Anápolis (GO), as part of a strategy to have all models in the portfolio electrified by the end of next year.

The hybrid models that will begin to be assembled at the Anápolis plant starting this month will be the Tiggo 5x PRO Hybrid and Tiggo 7 PRO Hybrid utility vehicles. Currently, only Toyota produces flex-fuel hybrid cars in Brazil.

The company, a partnership between Brazilian Caoa and China’s Chery, will also start selling at the end of the month a 100% electric subcompact, but imported from China. In August, it will still start bringing a sedan from there.

The announcement comes after the company said in May that it decided to close a factory in the interior of São Paulo until 2025 to adapt it to the production of electric vehicles.

Licenses for hybrid and electric cars and light automobiles show an increase of 57.7% from January to May over the same period in 2021, to 16,400 units, representing a market share of 2.4%.
