One quarter of an hour was enough for Olympiakos, who passed by Mykonos with versatility in the attack!

His winning streak in this year’s championship continued unscathed Olympic!

At noon on Sunday (26/10), his team Giorgos Bartzokas passed with a score of 91-65 from the renovated and beautiful Ano Mera Indoor in the historic first meeting of AO of Mykonos at her “home”, in a match for the 4th round of the Stoiximan GBL.

The “red and whites”… found it dark in the first half, with the team from the “Island of the Winds” taking advantage the 11 mistakes of Piraeus and to remain close to the score (29-35). However, it took the champions just one good quarter after a flurry of three-pointers in the 3rd period to run an impressive individual score 33-13 and cleared the case with a victory, a few days before the EuroLeague’s “devil’s week” at home against Monaco (29/10) and Hapoel Tel Aviv (31/10).

The first scorer of the winners was Saben Lee with 19 points – 13 of which came in the final period – with them Nilikina (16p., 4r., 2as.), Ward (14p., 5r.), Vezenkov (11p., 6r.) and Dorsey (10p., 7as.) to be the other four players with double-digit points. For the Cyclades, who fell to 1-3, Appleby (12p., 6as., 2cl.) and Moore (10p., 7r.) were exceptional.

The match:

The first historical basket in the renewed Klisto of Ano Mera was to be scored by Evans with a shot behind 6.75m. at the beginning of the first period, with Olympic dominating the floor and starring Dorsey, Vezenkov and Nilikina, as well as his pressing defense, going on an 11-0 run to 11-3 in the first 5 minutes of the match. OR Mykonos reacted and with a quick 6-0 reduced to the basket (11-9), before Nilikina wrote with a three-pointer 14-9 two minutes later.

Accumulated mistakes, but also the laziness presented by the “red and whites” at both ends of the field, allowed the hosts to find several points in transition and the open field. Sort of like that, with their frontmen Moore and Appleby they managed to easily find their way to the opponent’s basket and even lead by +3 (19-16), before Ward with a beautiful drive and finish, formed the 19-18 of the quarter.

The voices and strong complaints that he had George Bartzokas after the end of the season, it seemed that they “awakened” his players to second quarter. With Saben Lee setting the pace on the perimeter line, the “red and white” found baskets from Larentzakis and Dorsey escaped at +7 and 26-19 in the 13th minute. Then the active Appleby which created many “headaches” for Olympiakos in defense and attack, helped Vangelis Ziagos’ team to limit the Piraeus who had 11 errors in the half (!0 and to remain close to the score for 30-25 at 17′. Three shots by the visitors by Larentzakis and Nilikina a minute later brought the difference back to its maximum value (25-33), with Moore reducing in the final with four personal points and sending the two to the locker room with score at 35-29.

The scene was completely different in third quarter, where Olympiacos raised “turns” in its attack, adding the three-pointer in his repertoire. It is characteristic that Mykonos with baskets by Evans and Appleby reduced to a basket (33-35), before the “red and whites” with two three-pointers by Ward, two more by Vezenkov and one by Nilikina, shot the difference at +18 and 55-37 at the 24th minute!

The visitors continued at the same high tempo for the rest of the period, with the attacking crescendo moving to the racket and Milutinov, Dorsey and Ward continually widening the gap. In fact, with a three-pointer by Peters in the finale, the “red and whites” closed the quarter at +26 and 68-42, with the partial score stopping at 33-13, when they had scored 35 points in the entire first half!

Somehow, h fourth and final period acquired a procedural character, since the pink match sheet had been decided definitively. Due to the big difference, Olympiacos found the opportunity to open up its rotation and give the rest of the players playing time. With him Shaben Lee shines with 13 points in the quarter (!), the Piraeus reached up to +36 (49-85), with Mykonos collecting the difference in the final for final 91-65.

The quarters: 19-18, 29-35, 42-68, 65-91.
