Fake accounts block Twitter purchases, says Musk

by

Billionaire Elon Musk said on Tuesday (21) that there are problems in his project to buy Twitter, for US$ 44 billion dollars. The businessman returned to the point of the number of fake users on the social network and classified it as a “very important” topic.

“There are unresolved problems,” Musk told the Qatar Economic Forum via videoconference. The billionaire didn’t elaborate, but described the Twitter purchase as a “sensitive” topic.

According to him, the social network considers the number of fake and spam accounts to be less than 5% of daily active users, but the businessman doubts.

“We always hope for a solution on this very important matter,” said the head of Tesla and SpaceX, when Twitter finally agreed to provide necessary information on the topic in early June.

Twitter’s doubt and a favorable vote by shareholders are also part of the points to be resolved, he added.

Elon Musk wants 80% of the American population and half the world to reach the social network, and recognizes the need for “a space where people don’t feel uncomfortable or intimidated”.

In this topic, the concept of freedom of expression comes into play, “different from free access” to content. “Twitter should let people say what they want, within the limits of the law, and limit what people see by following users’ preferences,” he defended.

If his purchase project is successful, Elon Musk wants to be Twitter’s “product pilot”, as he did with Tesla and SpaceX, without having to have the title of CEO.
