On the lending side, the monthly net flow of total financing to the private sector was positive by € 464 million, compared to a positive net flow of € 607 million last month.
They decreased by EUR 336 million business and household deposits in May. On the contrary, corporate deposits (which include credit institutions and financial corporations) increased by 1.64 billion euros.
Thus, according to the data of the Bank of Greece, the deposits of the private sector increased by 1.3 billion euros compared to an increase of 1.350 billion euros last month, while the annual rate of change amounted to 6.3% from 5.8% last month. On the other hand, in May 2022, general government deposits decreased by 48 million euros, compared to an increase of 181 million euros in the previous month, and the annual rate of change decreased to 2.2% from 3% in the previous month.
In the area of loans, the monthly net flow of total funding to the private sector was positive by EUR 464 million, against a positive net flow of € 607 million last month. The annual rate of change in total private sector financing increased to 3.2% from 2.8% in the previous month.
More specifically, the monthly net flow of financing to companies in May 2022 was positive by 589 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 699 million euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change increased to 7.8% from 7 % last month. In particular, the annual rate of change in the financing of non-financial corporations increased to 7.3% from 6.1% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of their funding was positive by 764 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 683 million euros last month. The annual rate of change in the financing of insurance companies and other financial institutions decreased to 12.4% from 15.4% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of their funding was negative by 175 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 16 million euros last month.
The negative net flow of funding to individuals and private non-profit institutions in May 2022 was negative by 148 million euros, compared to a negative net flow of 67 million euros in the previous month. The annual rate of change of their financing was -2.3% from -2.2% in the previous month.
Finally, the monthly net flow of funding to the general government, in May 2022, was positive by 1.547 billion euros, compared to a positive net flow of 239 million euros last month. The annual rate of change in general government funding fell to 15.4% from 17.4% last month.
