Harassment complaints motivate change in Caixa
The president of Caixa Econômica, Pedro Guimarães, left the command of the state bank this Wednesday (29), after being accused of sexual harassment by employees.
In the letter in which he announced his departure, Guimarães denies the accusations and says he is the target of “political rancor in an election year”.
Understand the case: the episodes include, according to the women’s reports, intimate touches without consent, inappropriate proposals to female employees and other inappropriate conduct. The accusations were revealed by the website Metrópoles on Tuesday (28).
- A bank employee told the Sheet who was pulled by the neck and heard Guimarães say ‘I’m in the mood for you’. She claims to have been in shock after the episode.
Who is the replacement? Caixa’s new president is Daniella Marques, minister Paulo Guedes’ right-hand man. She occupied the special secretariat for Productivity, Employment and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy.
Who is Pedro Guimaraes? close to President Jair Bolsonaro since the 2018 presidential campaign, he became a frequent figure in the lives held on Thursdays. His idea, according to Planalto aides, was to run for Bolsonaro’s vice seat this year.
- In three years of management, he turned Caixa into a machine for promoting “good news” for the government at the same speed with which he collected accusations of sexual harassment and disagreements at the helm of the institution.

PEC Kamikaze is reborn
The Senate abandoned the Fuels PEC and pulled the so-called Kamikaze PEC from the ashes to grant benefits at an extra cost of BRL 38.75 billion.
The vote was postponed to this Thursday (30).
Understand: the nickname for the proposal came in February, when it was presented to help professionals impacted by the rise in fuel prices and had costs estimated at BRL 100 billion.
What the PEC proposes (measures would be valid until the end of the year):
- Aid for truck drivers: BRL 1000 per month for about 870 thousand self-employed professionals. Cost of BRL 5.4 billion.
- Increase in Brazil Aid: clear the queue 1.6 million of families in the assistance program and increase the monthly transfer from R$ 400 to R$ 600. BRL 26 billion.
- Double gas boost: goes from R$ 60 to BRL 120 every two months. Cost of BRL 1.05 billion.
- Others BRL 2.5 billion go to the elderly free of charge in municipal transport and more BRL 3.8 billion so that ethanol producing states can compensate for exemptions on fuel.
green commitment
In a historic agreement, the 27 member countries of the EU (European Union) approved on Wednesday a bill to end the sale of new cars with combustion engines by 2035.
The proposal still needs to be approved by the European and EU parliaments.
What explains: The initiative is part of the continent’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality (understand the term here) by 2050.
World trend: EU members reinforced that the measure is a way of not falling behind in relation to the goals announced by the US and China for the electrification of the fleet.
- of the 6.6 million of units sold last year, half of them were made in China.
Is here? In Brazil, the lack of infrastructure makes the path of electric vehicles more bumpy.
- The recent rise in fuel prices, however, has brought a new dispute in the automotive market: which automaker will be able to offer the 100% electric vehicle at a more affordable price? See details in Eduardo Sodré’s column.

Standard charger on request
Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) opened a public consultation for a proposal to standardize USB Type-C chargers for cell phones.
Understand: the agency says it opted for this standard because it is widely used by most manufacturers and has internationally recognized standards. This charger is used in the vast majority of devices with Android operating system.
From there to here: USB Type-C was also chosen by the European Union earlier this month as the charger standard for mobile devices to be adopted by manufacturers from 2024.
- The agreement needs to be ratified by the countries of the bloc and is considered a defeat for Apple, which uses the Lightning technology charger.
