The managers of London’s largest airport have asked airlines to modify this morning’s flight schedule from Heathrow, as the number of passengers would exceed their service capacity.

The last minute request resulted in a sudden cancellation or delay in execution 30 flights, resulting in thousands of passengers suffering a great deal, for another day.

Most of these passengers, however, are expected to fly sometime during the day.

A Heathrow Airport spokesman apologized and said the decision was made for the safety of passengers.

Social media posts by outraged travelers speak of announcements of cancellations as soon as they arrive at the airport or even at check-in, with many talking about “chaos”.

Among the flights canceled were British Airways mornings for Athens and for Thessaloniki.

Flight cancellations, long delays and long queues at ticket and boarding control are now almost a daily occurrence at most major British airports, as well as at many European airports. In Britain the problem is attributed to scarcity sufficient number of staff both at airports and on airlines.
