Bolsonaro transforms possession at Caixa into a platform, attacks STF and ignores harassment

by

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) this Tuesday (5th) turned the inauguration of the new president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Daniella Marques, into a political platform and ignored accusations of harassment against the former commander of the state bank, Pedro Guimarães. According to Bolsonaro, the new administration will be a continuation of the previous one.

In his speech, the president also attacked the STF (Supreme Federal Court) and the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) and raised suspicions, without evidence, about electronic voting machines.

Although the inauguration took place in a closed ceremony, the Chief Executive broadcast part of the ceremony on social media and ignored the electoral closed period, which imposes several restrictions on the government, such as the veto of exalting the Executive’s achievements.

The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, were also at the event.

Both praised Bolsonaro’s performance at the head of the federal government and praised Marques’ choice to replace Guimarães.

Lira said that the bank gains an “excellent executive” with the arrival of Marques.

“An executive who comes with a seal to correct distortions that are… Impossible for any Brazilian to admit in the 21st century. If they happened, they should be resolved as quickly and severely as possible”, he said.

The representative also praised the new president of the state-owned company and said that she will continue with the work of her predecessor.

“A new era does not begin here at Caixa, Caixa continues. It now has a president, who is competent, who showed her value back there, who fought, who committed herself. It is difficult for us to see women in the economy, but Dani , women’s space is anywhere, there is no need to set a quota for women, they go on their own merits”, he declared.

This Tuesday (4), the first time he spoke about the case of the former director of Caixa and the accusations of sexual harassment, Bolsonaro limited himself to saying that the executive was removed, but later corrected and said that Guimarães was the one who asked for the removal.

“The president of Caixa was removed, is that answered? Or rather, he asked for leave, okay?”, he said in a conversation with supporters.

The president and Guimarães were close. The executive went so far as to claim the vice seat on the representative’s re-election slate this year. He left office claiming to be a victim of persecution.

Bolsonaro took the opportunity to mention his daughter Laura, who was in the audience and whose public appearance at government events is rare. On stage, next to the president, was First Lady Michelle.

Bolsonaro says he expects PEC approval this week

The Chief Executive stated that there is an “almost perfect” marriage with the Legislature and said that he expects the PEC to be enacted this week, authorizing billions for truck drivers, taxi drivers and Auxílio Brasil in an election year.

“90% of what I do depends on Parliament and Parliament collaborates, as it is collaborating now in this PEC, which was approved by the Senate and is in the Chamber. It should be voted on this week and, God willing, enacted this week,” he said. .

The president resumed attacks on the top of the Judiciary. He criticized the possibility of the Supreme Court refuting the thesis of the time frame of indigenous lands, which seeks to establish that indigenous people who were not on their lands on the date of promulgation of the 1988 Constitution would not have the right to claim the demarcation of the area.

Edson Fachin, for example, has already voted in this direction – the trial was interrupted by a request for a view (when a minister asks for more time to analyze the case) from Alexandre de Moraes.

The president also raised suspicions again, without evidence, about the electronic voting system. In addition, he criticized the impeachment of Fernando Francischini, determined by the TSE for having stated that the polls were rigged in 2018 in favor of Fernando Haddad (PT), who was his opponent in the election.
