Gasoline: Why prices are not falling – The factors shaping the market

Our country is in 2nd place in the eurozone – The last 10 days of July opens the platform for Fuel Pass 2

In the last 2 weeks, its international price oil fell by $13 to $101/barrel (about 11.4%) but the average unleaded price in the country fell just 3 minutes to €2.39/liter (1.2%). The continued decline of the euro against the dollar to a 22-year low – they have reached almost 1 to 1 – but also that international petrol prices remain high can partly explain the phenomenon.

Partly because of prices in the rest of the countries, fuel prices have fallen further so that the distance from the Community average has now widened to 40 minutes. Greece now has the 2nd most expensive petrol in Eurozone – after it also surpassed Denmark – and is only 1 minute away from Finland, which leads with €2.40/litre.

In the Cyclades the average price of gasoline exceeds 2.63/liter and 2.252€ in the Dodecanese. 7 more prefectures – Evrytania, Corfu, Kefalonia, Lasithi, Lefkada, Samos and Fokida have an average of €2.45/litre, 6 minutes above the national average.

3.4 minutes retreated in the last 2 weeks diesel. Although the horizontal discount of 15 cents applies, Greece is constantly getting more expensive and now has the 5th highest price from 9th 20 days ago and 8 cents above the Community average found at €1.99/litre. If the government decided tomorrow to withdraw the subsidy, then Greece would jump into the top 3 with the most expensive diesel prices behind only the Scandinavian countries, Sweden and Denmark.

The last 10 days of July will be expected to open the platform for the fuel pass 2with increased subsidy amounts which in the island regions reach €100 for cars and €70 for motorbikes, while the Ministry of Finance correctly increased the incentive to use the digital card instead of depositing into a bank account to €15 instead of €5 since in the first fuel pass cycle only 2/10 used the card.
