Book brings history of Roberto Simonsen’s construction company

“Modern work: Roberto Simonsen’s construction company” (2022), by architect Gino Caldatto Barbosa, talks about the pioneering spirit of the company created by engineer, industrialist, deputy, senator and member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters Roberto Cochrane Simonsen (1889-1948) .

The objective is to fill this gap in the biography of one of the greatest exponents of the national industry.

Created in 1912, the construction company was linked to works such as the Vila Belmiro stadium, the Bolsa Oficial de Café and the Teatro e Casino Parque Balneário, all in Santos (SP).

The author points out that, in a period when most of the constructions were under the direction of contractors, the Companhia Construtora de Santos, which came to be cited as the largest construction company in Brazil at the time, introduced engineers and architects to its staff. .

The book also stands out for adding new information about Simonsen’s role as an engineer and construction entrepreneur in Brazil in the first half of the 20th century.
