After the great fire in the region of Rua 25 de Março, merchants in the neighborhood, who still calculate the loss of lost sales in recent days, plan to increase the pressure for safety.
According to Cláudia Urias, director of Univinco (União dos Tenants of March 25), the association is going to do training with local businesses and wants to check the documentation of the establishments. The scenario, she says, is one of desperation, and shopkeepers are worried about staying another day behind closed doors.
“I’m not even talking about revenue. Imagine 150,000 to 300,000 people a day. I tell them that they have to understand that it’s for preservation and security, because, if a bigger problem happens, we’ll have a much greater impact than than the one we already have”, says Urias.
In the regions close to the 25th, with a high vocation for commerce, it was a relief that the fire happened precisely in a week that is no longer considered a period of heated sales.
According to Nelson Tranquez, from the Chamber of Shopkeepers in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, the previous week saw a rise in sales because of tourists attracted by the Book Biennial, and the following week, preparations begin for the launch of the spring and summer collection in clothing. . But in this week in which the 25th suffers the effects of the fire, a smaller flow of visitors was already expected.
